2007 June > Mind Over Mountain Adventure Racing
Squamish's inaugural Mind Over Mountain Adventure Racing (MOMAR) was a huge success with over 200 racers from across North America being tested on our incredible terrain! The 45 km course was designed by Squamish's Jen Segger-Gigg, professional adventure racer and personal trainer. The course started at Alice Lake Provincial Park with an 8+km navigational trek. Next was cross country mountain biking on trails such as Rob's and Cliff's Corners, Pseudo Tsuga, and Powerhouse Plunge. Then there was an intense hike 4km up and down Mount Crumpit, a short bike stage, and a 30m rappel down the Smoke Bluffs. There was a final urban navigation trek through downtown Squamish with the finish at the Pavillion. Racers had to navigate to 22 checkpoints throughout the course with penalties if they missed any. The winning team was Gary Robbins of Squamish and Todd Nowack of Victoria on Team Helly Hansen with a time of 03:52:49 and the last teams came in just over 8 1/2 hours. The after party was at the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Co. with a buffet, awards, and live music with Cam Salay and the Hair Farmers. For more information go to www.mindovermountain.com.
