Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race

Squamish held the first Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race (MOMAR) of 2008. MOMARs are one day events aimed at challenging the bodies and minds of adventure enthusiasts. The Squamish course was designed by Jen Segger-Gigg with a start and finish at Quest University. It included Map Reading & Navigation, 15+km of Trekking & Trail Running, 30+km of Mountain Biking, and a 100 ft Rappel. The official course map was given out only 45 minutes before the start of the race and just before the start, Event Director Bryan Tasaka gave out last minute directions. Jeff Riemer and Justin Mark of Team Helly Hansen Vancouver Island came in 1st with 4:04:08, Todd Nowack and Gary Robbins of Team Helly Hansen MOMAR came in 2nd with 4:05:50, Bart Jarmula came in 3rd (1st individual) with 4:14:28, Garth Campbell and Shane Ruljancich of PIT (Pain Is Temporary) came in 4th, Sarah Seads of ELM Health was the first female, and Johanna Gunn and Toran Savjord of Head Over Heels were the first coed team. MOMAR's title sponsor is Schick Xtreme 3, presenting sponsor is Helly Hansen, and official charity is Make-A-Wish.
